Although I lean towards GG since I've heard that Cross Tag Battle dumbed down it's mechanics and combos, I want to know more about the differences between the two before committing time and money toward it.I'm looking for a fast paced game with difficult mechanics and lots of mobility. The Blazblue core series is very similar to Guilty Gear. A lot of people do not consider BBTAG as part of the core series as the mechanics are very different than BB. Both BB and GG are both traditional Anime fighters which means they focus a lot more on mobility with double/triple jumps and air dashes.
More air options make the games much more fast paced and allows a lot more offensive options than in a game like street fighter. There is also a lot more pressure options in BB&GG compared with street fighter. With the ability to set up moves that will hit your opponent when they wake up and allow you to go for a 'mix up' hitting them either high, low, or with a grab.Now, you're on the so I think most people here will probably say that you should pick up GG instead of BB. I have personally played much more GG than BB. I prefer the theme and the characters in GG and I enjoy the flow of combat more.I think you should watch some gameplay of both GG and BB, look at how the games flow and see if you like the aesthetics of one game more than the other. Maybe look for a specific character in one of the games that really peaks your interest.
Both of the games have similarly difficult mechanics to master, so I don't think there is one that is objectively better/harder than the other. Just choose whichever one you seem most interested in. You mean cross tag battle or central fiction?As stated cross tag is very different from mainline series.
Now the question is how difficult do you want your mechanics to be? New players can have issues with combos and other things like that and the anime games I would recommend right now for new players are Dragon ball fighter Z and cross tag battle. Dragon ball mechanically I think is simpler than cross tag and I prefer Dragon ball. Cross tag has a lot of mechanics and can be very complex when it comes to the game because of safe jumps, frame traps, universal DP, using two characters, push blocking, and the lack of crossup protection.
Both games thankfully have new players so it will be easy to get into both but if you want something more complex while still at least having a chance without getting floored then cross tag is your game. If you don't want something as complex to just understand anime games I think Dragon ball isn't a bad choice. I don't recommend blazblue central fiction cause not many new players and that game can be pretty one sided if New. The same happens in GG but there are still new player lobbies that I know of (there might be some for BBCF but dunno) tldr.
Cross tag I recommend it. If you want something less mechanically intensive then Dragon ball.
First off, I’m going to preface by saying that Cross Tag is not a BB game, despite the title. It plays completely differently and might as well be regarded it’s own segregated title.
If you’re considering BB, you want to be grabbing Central Fiction instead.Now that that’s out of the way, it’s funny because while the two are extremely similar, most people who play GG don’t care for BB, and likewise most people who play BB don’t care for GG. It just feels a lot different for some inexplicable reason, but I’ll try to walk through each so you can maybe make a more informed decision.GG is a very technical fighter that requires a lot of lab time and investment. There’s a lot of nuance to combo routes, neutral, defense, etc that will try your patience if you aren’t familiar with the genre. The cast is very diverse with their own special set of options and play styles. Combos are a big chunk of the game, but chances are as you improve your play you’re gonna have a list of character specific stuff due to weight classes having a big impact on routing possibilities that lead into knockdown. Damage is also hard to keep track of mentally due to how variable scaling is, the warping of the health bars, and everyone’s different defense and guts modifiers.
However if you want a challenge and don’t mind the effort, GG is a great fit for a lot of people.On the other hand, BB is a lot simpler. Combos tend to be universal due to the removal of weight classes, with character specific stuff only dependent on hurtboxes. The buffer window for inputs is generally much larger than GG which makes it feel a bit more consistent. However that’s not to say the game is easy. There are definitely some routes that require a lot of practice for every character once you start getting into the deep end of things. Another thing about BB is that it tends to feel more.I suppose “gimmicky” is the proper term.
Everyone has a special character trait that involves their D button, dubbed their “drive.” Everyone’s does something wildly different and thus characters start to feel really distinct. BB also isn’t afraid to add very quirky character play styles too, and in fact I’d say you’d be hard pressed to find so many clearly different and defined play styles in a fighter.
For some people, that’s not their cup of tea though.This is all coming from someone who likes both games but prefers BB, so of course I’m a bit bias towards it, but one of the main reasons I started playing it over Xrd is that I was a fan of how gimmicky it was and how every character felt like a pretty far stretch from others. I also enjoyed the inclusion of things like Fatal counters, and how many recovery states are counter hitable unlike GG where counter hits almost always revolve around punishing startup.
Really the best way to make a choice though is to really read into both. Check out their respective dustloop pages, read into the mechanics, maybe look at some characters. Watch some match footage of those characters you think are interesting, and seeing the game in motion with a bit of background knowledge will be a lot more helpful than opinions on the Internet. Guilty Gear and Blazblue (the mainline games) are similar in a lot of ways since the developer is the same. They are different in a lot of ways, too. If it's between GGXrdR2 and BBCF, Guilty Gear is the more modern offering with better tutorials, balance, and more polish.
BBTag is more equivalent, but as a tag game, it's a different beast. Gameplay wise, BB let's you convert every stray hit into damage, and has a more open screen (characters take up less space), and that results in more pokey neutral stuff.
GG conversions need more specific moves to land or for the player to spend meter on RRC, but once you get that conversion into knockdown, most GG characters have nasty setplay to keep you miserable. BB tends to have longer combos, while GG is more about ensuring you get another combo. BB has more character diversity, with some true zoners that GG lacks, but the balance has always suffered for it, and there are plenty of truly awful matchups.They're similar, so it will come down to opinion. My perspective is pretty skewed as a BB dabbler, but I always liked GG's aesthetic way more.
